MR. VIMOSHAN ARUMUHAM
BMBS, BMEDSCI (HONS), PGCERT, MFMLM, MSC, FRCS (UROL)
“I aspire to become a Consultant Urologist with a subspecialty interest in urolithiasis.
Indeed, I have purposely tailored my focus during the later stages of my higher specialist training to maximise my exposure to my preferred subspecialty - “endoluminal endourology”. As a final year trainee within the North- Central Thames sub-region of the London Deanery, I currently work in the Stone & Endourology Unit at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I am proficient in the medical and surgical management of complex tertiary-referral, urinary stone disease. I take part in a multi-disciplinary approach to my patient’s care and have a pragmatic attitude to developing sound clinical skills. I have been involved in the introduction of the novel “super-mini PCNL” to the UK – which we hope to embed as an option into the arsenal of the practising modern endourologist.
During my training, I was successful in obtaining a Darzi Fellowship in Clinical Leadership; this nationally- recognised, prestigious fellowship seconded participants into medical management roles with focussed individual coaching from the Kings Fund. I became an operations manager to the Medical Director at the Royal Free Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I obtained a PG Certificate in Healthcare Management and subsequently used this foundation to become the first trainee onto the inaugural intake of the NHS Leadership Elizabeth Garrett Programme. From this, I have obtained a Masters Degree. I used my thesis during my Masters to examine the importance organisational values and values-based recruitment for Service Improvement. I have experience presenting at Hospital Board, Regional, National and International meetings. I have channelled my enthusiasm for teaching, with formal training and have been appointed as the national co-lead for the Urology Module for the upcoming Royal College of Surgeons PG Certificate in Surgery.
In the future, I aspire to have working relationships built upon strong foundations with colleagues and to contribute meaningfully in improving the service that my department provides to its patients.”
