TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Teaching is an activity I enjoy, as it allows me the opportunity to share the knowledge I have acquired through my research interests, and the practical experience I have gained in various hospital settings and scenarios.

To provide a firm foundation for my teaching provision, and acquire the skills and confidence necessary to deliver one-to-one and group teaching sessions, I have attended the 'Teach the Teachers' course for doctors where I have acquired the knowledge,

*     Provide weekly teaching to medical students and foundation year trainees in my current post.

          -      Lead the teaching ward rounds 2-3 times a week.

          -      Teach 3rd and 5th year medical students (Kings College University students), approximately 3-5   students, and 3 times weekly evening sessions in preparation for their OSCE’s.

          -      Examiner to undergraduate students at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine, London

*     Designated Faculty Member of the Anatomy department having achieved honorary demonstrator status at the   1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Prague in 2003.

       -     Led and supervised students in dissections, and provided small group teachings with                               the aid of prosections and organ based models.

*    Taught nursing staff and nursing trainees in all the hospitals where I have worked.

*    Examiner to undergraduate students at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine, London

I am sensitive to students needs and enjoy breaking complex problems into simple parts, provide detailed feedback, encourage students to help each other and ask questions. Indeed, feedback forms from seminars and 360 appraisals have indicated positive attributes of teaching. Having been nominated, I have evaluated MCQ questions for UMAP used in medical examinations throughout the country.

ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE

*       Laid particular emphasis in writing up case notes to highest standards and follow-up notes and stress upon-  accurate documentation of events as and when they occur.

*        As a result of my involvement in audit I have developed an appreciation for its importance in maintaining and improving overall patient care, and an understanding of the framework through which audit operates.

*        Possess good communication/team skills and believe in maintaining fruitful rapport with patients, patient’s relatives and hospital staff.

*        Much of my recent experience has been working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and I feel confident of my role presenting my own conclusion and where appropriate supporting the decisions of other members.

*       From a student body of 4000, whilst at medical school, I was elected as one of fifteen student members to sit on the Academic Senate: the Governing Body of the First Faculty. I took part in the election of the University Dean, as well as being responsible for reporting student feedback on course content and organization.
